Southern Italy and Sicily have long been the step-children of Italy, yet once the unification of these areas proved to be one of the longest running kingdoms in Europe, lasting for some 800 years without a change in boundary lines! Come spend the early spring at BSSS with Dr. Sara N. James, professor emerita of art history at Mary Baldwin and lecturer for Smithsonian Journeys and the National Trust Tours, and explore some of the rich history, art, architecture, and literature of Southern Italy and Sicily with two lectures on the contributions of the Ancient Greeks and Romans and two on the Normans—which some of you may not realize conquered Southern Italy before they conquered England!
