In this class, students will learn how to paint with oils. We will talk about value, color and temperature. We will use limited palette and talk how to organize colors on the palette. Toxicity and cleaning brushes will be also discussed. In three hour long sessions, we will learn to paint from observation, painting still lives and objects.
The class is recommended for students who have some experience with drawing, but the beginners without drawing experience are also welcome.
Materials: a wooden or glass Masterson palette, palette knife, oil painting brushes flat and or filbert sizes: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ( the more brushes the better), canvas panels, or stretched canvas size: 8 x 10, 9 x 12, 11 x 14, paper towel or rugs, nitrile protective gloves and or cotton gloves for painting, two jars with lids for oil and the solvent, oil paint cleaning soap, oil paint: titanium white, cadmium red, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, cadmium yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, emerald green. Examples of paint brands: Gamblin, Blick, Blue Ridge Oil, Williamsburg.
For sketching before painting: sketchbook, or a drawing pad, vine or willow soft charcoal sticks, knittable eraser.
