The nature of watercolor as a paint medium will be explored as well as a review of brushes, palettes, and papers. The student will practice primary skills including brushwork, small basic washes (flat, layered, and graded) and simple techniques for altering washes. We will explore of color vs. paint (hue, value, chroma, transparency, staining, granulation etc.). There will be in-class demonstrations and individual and/or group critiques. Weekly class handouts (mostly digital) will support class projects and these may have optional “homework” projects to help the student continue practice basic skills between session. We will create lots of watercolor exercises and a few small but more finished paintings.
