Come with us to see one of the most prolific artists of the Renaissance!

“Self-Portrait,” c. 1546/1548.

Regarded as one of the “Big Three” 16th-century Venetian painters (alongside Titian & Paolo Veronese), Jacopo Tintoretto’s work is coming to Washington D.C.! As an artist who was only recorded as leaving his home city of Venice once in his 75 years of life, most of his works have never left Venice, either.  Many of Tintoretto’s paintings were enormous and painted directly on the walls and ceilings of Venetian churches and Scuole.  For obvious reasons, those pieces are unable to travel, so the chance to see his work stateside is rare, and has only happened one other time!

For the 500th anniversary of his birth, art historian Robert Echols (the son of our very own Mary Echols) partnered with Frederick Ilchman to curate an amazing selection of Tintoretto’s works on canvas which exhibited in Venice last fall. You now have the unique opportunity to see the full exhibition, exactly as it appeared in Italy, in Washington, D.C.!  Although the exhibit doesn’t opens to the public on March 24th, The Washington Post is already touting that “for many visitors, it will probably be a revelation”.

“Summer,” c. 1546/1548

Leave all of the planning to us! All that you have to do is come to one of the designated meeting areas on the morning of June 10th and climb on the bus!  We will take you directly to Constitution Ave., just steps away from the National Gallery of Art, and pick you up in the same place. Dr. Sally James, who is an expert on the Renaissance in Italy, will give you a brief talk as the bus nears the museum to help everyone prepare for the exhibition, as well as answer some questions upon departure.

The cost to attend is only $55, no membership required (if you wish to participate in a docent-guided tour of the exhibit, the cost is $65 – limited space is available!). Lunch is not provided, so we suggest bringing a bagged lunch or choosing from a list of nearby options we will e-mail to you.  As always, the entrance to the National  Gallery of Art is free, and there are no passes required to view the Tintoretto exhibit.

While we would absolutely love to take everyone, there is limited space on the charter bus!  Please register by selecting your pick up location below and completing your payment!  If you prefer to pay by cash or check, please call the office at (540) 886-8636 to register manually!

After registration, please anticipate trip coordinator Nancy Armstrong to be in contact with you for further details.
