Join New York-based artist Shawn Dell Joyce as she shows you how to create successful paintings outdoors on location using soft pastels (you may bring the medium of your choice, as her lessons are designed to be universal to all medias). Students will learn to observe, then carefully select and edit what they see in nature to create either finished paintings on location or sketches for later use in the studio. The class will meet at locations in Staunton, or in the studio if weather is inclement. You will learn how to simplify your painting process, establish strong designs based on solid drawing, along with assess accurate value arrangements and color combinations using Notan. The goal will be to create several sketches and a completed painting each day. A materials list will be provided upon registration.
