By studying and copying one of John Singer Sargent’s masterful watercolors, you will unlock the magic of his techniques and use of color that may be applied to your future work. You will gain an understanding of Sargent’s approach to creating luminous color that ranges from his most transparent passages to his deepest saturated darks. The workshop will involve recreating a Sargent by tracing and copying one of his masterful watercolors in order to study glazing techniques, mixing techniques on the palette, and wet-in-wet, as well as masking and reserve techniques. There will be a strong emphasis on color theory and the use of the color wheel with demonstrations by Judy throughout the process and exercises on making intentional and successful color choices. A master copy, tracing and graphite paper are provided. Suitable for beginners with some experience to more experienced painters. judybatesstudio@aol.com
