Fall 2014 : Workshop : The Draftsman’s Toolbox:

This class will explore some fundamental techniques and strategies that are needed in order to draw believable spatial relationships. We will explore a simple, intuitive approach to linear perspective; measuring, proportional ratios, angling, and finding alignments and intersections. These techniques are not only necessary for drawing the geometry of architecture and interiors, but are also useful for understanding the structural nature of any 3-dimensional form and the space in which it resides. It is essentially about seeing and drawing relationships of scale and placement. We will start with boxes and interior spaces, and end with architecture. The instructor will provide most of the tools needed for this class.

The content of instruction is suitable for anyone with a basic understanding of the ideas of composition and a familiarity with any painting medium, and it is vitally important for experienced and advanced painters who wish to take their painting and understanding of the essence of art to another level. Artists with decades of experience who have taken this workshop have remarked “it was a true awakening” – discovering that many of the “fundamentals” they believed about visual composition are not the whole story, and in fact can hinder creativity. For anyone with serious intent and basic experience in drawing and painting from direct observation. Students must contact Ron in advance of enrolling to discuss the class and obtain a personal supply list. Call 434-528-4795 or email boehmerart@yahoo.comwww.ronboehmer.com
