Fall 2013 : Workshop : Russ Warren’s Studio Critique:

Russ Warren taught printmaking and painting at Davidson College from 1978-2008 and has exhibited nationally and internationally. He will share his aesthetic, art historical, and practical experiences for this critique class. Beginners through advanced artists are invited to attend and bring one or two paintings in oil or acrylic for critique. Students are asked to bring an abundance of enthusiasm and a willingness to share their experience with others.


Fall 2013 : Workshop : Bas Taille Enameled Jewelry:

Bas Taille is the technique of firing transparent enamel over textured metal. In this two day workshop, we will explore various ways of creating textured metal that can be cut into shapes prior to enameling. We will focus on simple jewelry and explore possibilities for complex forms as time permits. There will be demonstrations but emphasis will be on student generated work. Students will learn to see compositions in terms of gesture, rhythm and color relationships that sing. This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners or more advanced practitioners. The classes will focus on building design and images based on plans, photographs and drawings. The enamel process will explore ways to create surfaces of opacity and transparency, including wet packing, stenciling, scraffito and use of foils. Instruction focuses on developing stronger understanding of composition, color, and painting techniques related to accomplishing greater command of personal statement. Subject matter includes, but is not limited to, landscape, still life, figure, and abstract painting genres. Class involves personal and group critiques and discussions, demonstrations, and individual and group work projects.

Instruction focuses on development of personal skills and methods and process-related landscape and plein air painting. Students may work in any painting or drawing medium. Students should have at least basic previous experience in painting and/or drawing.


Fall 2013 : Class : Beginning & Intermediate Drawing & Painting: Janly Jaggard

This class is for students who are just starting on their art journey or for those continuing to build skill and experience using their medium of choice. Beginners are encouraged to begin with basic skills based on observational drawing. Color is introduced to those who wish to start painting. Students with more experience and a specific interest are given insight for working towards abstraction with reference to the Principles of Design.
