Dear students, members, donors, and friends of BSSS,
We hope that this email finds each and every one of you healthy and in good spirits. We have, like many other arts organizations, needed to make a number of difficult decisions related to the COVID-19 challenges; which are summarized below.
As a small non-profit arts organization, we are certain that our work contributes, in important ways, to the vibrant community of which we are a part. In that spirit, we hope these actions will likewise contribute to our community’s collective response to these new challenges.
- Queen City Plein Air Festival, scheduled for April 14-19, 2020, will not be held. While some festival activities could have been carried out with proper social distancing, others could not. We regret having to cancel this event which was eagerly anticipated, and we hope to reschedule it at some point in the future.
- Classes and workshops are cancelled for now. If you are currently enrolled in a Spring Term offering, please check your email for communication regarding your options for refunded tuition. If you did not receive this email, please reach out to the Office.
- The BSSS Gallery, at this time and until further notice, will be operating on a limited schedule. Our Gallery (and CoArt Gallery) are staffed year round by enthusiastic and invaluable volunteer docents. Those volunteers who are not ‘at risk’ persons have graciously offered to continue docenting and allowing our Gallery (and CoArt Gallery) to be a space of cheerful refuge from what otherwise are very stressful times. Please call ahead if you plan to visit the Gallery to ensure someone is there to welcome you.
- The BSSS Office will not be holding regular office hours at this time. Executive Director, Jillian Sanders will continue office operations remotely. Please know the School’s voicemail and emails will be checked regularly, but please allow up to 24 hours for a response from the Office during weekdays. Any urgent matters should be directed to email@example.com with a subject line URGENT.
We will continue to monitor advice from both the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health, as well as local and statewide government agencies to inform our decisions moving forward. We regret the inconvenience and disappointment that our decision may cause.
In these difficult times, the School, like many other Arts Organizations, will face new challenges while navigating ever changing circumstances. In the almost 28 years we have offered the community outstanding art education, we have never had to cancel an entire academic term. If you are in the position to contribute to the general operation of the School with a tax deductible donation during this time, it would be both put to great use and immensely appreciated. Thank you all for your continued support of the Beverley Street Studio School. We appreciate each and every one of you. Stay safe and healthy.
